The Greenville Spinners Bicycle Safety Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to making the Upstate a safer place to cycle through educational outreach programs and by providing helmets to school-age children and vulnerable cyclists who otherwise could not afford to purchase a helmet. Since 1993, contributions by Club members and friends have allowed us to give away over 12,000 helmets. For the past 22 years we have conducted and participated in numerous safety clinics, bike rodeos, helmet fittings, and community health fairs. Your contribution will allow us to continue promoting safe cycling in the community. The Foundation’s only costs are those associated with holding this fundraiser and postage, so over 91% of all monies donated go directly to fulfilling our mission.
Over the years we have donated to or partnered with many organizations to promote bicycle safety. During 2015 we provided helmets, safety lights, and our time to:
- Momentum Bike Clubs
- The Village Wrench
- Safe Kids Upstate
- Palmetto Cycling Coalition
- Lights for Life
- Greenville County Schools and PTAs
- Various local churches and community centers
Your support is essential to the efforts of the Foundation and, as a Spinners member or friend, you should be proud of what we have accomplished over the years. Our program prevents injuries and saves lives. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety estimates helmet use reduces head injury risk by 85 percent. Bicycle injuries and deaths affect children and young people more than any other age group.
